The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Simplicity S9822

I have spoken at length about my love-hate relationship with jumpsuits.  I think what I love most about them is how they look…on other people.  I have this fantasy in my mind about how I think they will look on me.  And what tends to happen is that I will purchase or make a jumpsuit and then put it on and be instantly disappointed in how it looks.  That said, when I saw this Mimi G pattern I said, maybe this is the one that’s going to look amazing on me.

The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Simplicity S9759

Somewhere around 2016 or 2017 Aaron and I took a road trip to Rosarito, an area in Baja Mexico, with some friends.  While there, we were approached by various vendors on the beach to purchase things like ponchos and blankets.  I, while under the influence, took little convincing to purchase a poncho. (Please note, I still have that poncho and I always get compliments on it.) Anyway, Aaron isn’t easily swayed.  So we came back across the border without having purchased a Baja jacket for him.  But since then he’s been kinda obsessed with them.

The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Simplicity S9636

Every year (sometimes twice a year) I go through my fabric stash and try to clear out as much clutter as I can.  When I come across small cuts of fabric that I can’t seem to part with, I try to find a creative way to use them.  So when I found about two yards of these two fabrics, I thought they’d both work for a top.  But I didn’t quite have enough of either to finish most of the patterns that I had.  But then the engineering part of my brain clicked on, and I realized that if I used both fabrics in one reversible shirt, I wouldn’t have to worry about the extra fabric that I would need for, say, facing pieces.

HOW I SPENT MY FALL VACATION 2023

The past several Novembers I’ve been working extra hard to not work hard at all.  I had a situation a few years ago where I was running myself ragged and it did NOT turn out well for me.  Since then, I’ve decided to take a month off from all things that were totally unnecessary to focus on rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.

The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Know Me #ME2026

I have been following Mimi G for a really long time.  And one of the things that I love about her is that she turned her passion into profit.  But she’s not trying to keep it all for herself.  She’s helping others turn their sewing and design skills into cold American cash by starting the Know Me brand.  This brand connects us to some of the funkiest designers out there. I also love that many of them are women, BIPOC and queer.

I have had a lot of trouble in finding a good silhouette for blouses for myself…or any top really.  For example, I thought I was going to be a cool graphic tee kind of girl, but that just didn’t work out for me.  Then I though I could be a peasant top kind of girl, but those never come at the right length and are usually too blousy so I just look bigger than I am.  And I don’t need that kind of help.  Then I tried doing fitted button front shirts, but they’re never cut right and the ones that fit my midsection are too tight on my boobs and it’s just horrible.

The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe:  McCall’s 8342

I was out one day and stumbled upon the cutest little plaid shirt for our dog Gloria.  Gloria absolutely loves wearing clothes.  So whenever I see something cute, I can’t help myself.  Anyway, when I got home I noticed that her shirt was very similar to one that Aaron has.  So I thought it might be a cute holiday card idea if we were all wearing our flannel finest.  There was just one problem…I own zero flannel.  I actually have a bit of a sensitivity to flannel fabric.  But if it’s soft enough I can get away with wearing it for a bit.

Costume Remix #30: Mo’ Betta’ Blues (1990)

Left Hand Lacey is the character you love to hate and his style borders on the absurd. That said, I have always been in love with the spin on a spectacle chain that he wears. He has glasses that don’t have arms, but instead have a chain and that chain connects to a single earring. BRILLIANT! Ruth E. Carter strikes again.

Costume Remix #26: CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC (2009)

Confessions of a Shopaholic, designed by the amazing Patricia Field, is what some folks call a ‘fashion movie.’ Much like Sex & The City (also designed by PF), Confessions of a Shopaholic is a feature length fashion show. It follows Rebecca, the titular shopaholic who ruins nearly every aspect of a girl whose shopping addition nearly ruins all aspects of her life. I’m most fascinated by her label whoring. She doesn’t necessarily go for style…just the name attached to the garment. Patricia Fields did an exquisite job making Rebecca’s looks be really cute and bubbly, like her personality, but also just a smidge off (also like her personality).

What I Did on My Fall Vacation: 2021

The past several Novembers I’ve been working extra hard to not work hard at all. I had a situation a few years ago where I was running myself ragged and it did NOT turn out well for me. Since then, I’ve decided to take a month off from all things that were totally unnecessary to focus on rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.

This fall break, I decided to work on some jewelry crafting projects. You all know how I’ve been remixing costume pieces from my favorite moves. Well, this time I decided to remix three (count ‘em) THREE, jewelry pieces from three different movies.
