Pussy Power Post #17-Pabvon Carter

I first met Pabvon about 15 years ago when we both worked in ad sales.  My first thought when seeing her was, Thank God, another black girl. My second thought was, She better be cool. Well I learned soon enough that she is not only cool, she’s literally every woman.  She’s one of the few people who can be whatever you need whenever you need it.  Wanna know the best place in Dubai to have a bottomless Hennessy brunch…she’s got you. Standing on a cliff in Jamaica, scared to jump off, she’ll grab your hand and hold on to it the whole way down.  Unsure what color scheme to go with for your wedding, she’s shows up at your door with a color palette presentation. Going into an emotional tailspin in the middle of the night…call her. She’ll not only pick up but give you some practical self-care tips to calm you TF down.

Oh, she’s also an amazing event planner and experience concierge.  With that said meet Pabvon Carter…the definition of every woman.

1.I’ll start with a very LA-esque question.  What exactly is it that you do?

I'm a corporate event and meeting planner for a financial company as my primary career and work on balanced life with meaningful connections after hours lol.

2. What inspires you?

Witnessing people taking a chance and inspiring or surprising themselves while they thrive.

3. Give me an abridged version of your journey.

I was an admin who wanted more. I wanted to create meaningful experiences for people.  It just took me realizing that I 1. could make a career out of my passion and 2. actually enjoy what I do and not just live on autopilot.  My current position allows me to use both the creative and logistical sides of my brain.  I can marry my loves of event planning, budgeting and organizing.

4. What’s your biggest accomplishment thus far?

It may sound obvious, but I find great accomplishment in setting professional goals, taking steps towards an end result, following through and achieving a positive outcome.  There’s nothing more satisfying than checking a goal off my list.

5. What’s next for you?

I’m working towards owning and operating my own event management company, RSVP By Pabvon.  Having it be successful enough to serve as my main source of income is what I’m striving for. I've also recently started an IG page, during the quarantine. It's a place for people of color to find virtual or quarantine events to keep us engaged, motivated connected and safe during this pandemic. The page is @Booqed_ give us a follow and share any events you're aware of!

6. Name one major goal for the future so your sistren can manifest that with you.

Wow manifesting out loud always scares me because once I put it on paper or release it to the universe, I feel obligated to achieve the goal but really the universe conspires in my favor and I need to hurry up and get ready. I would give the same answer as above. I would also love to write a book. I already have the title and the chapters laid out, just need to get the guts to start.

Name: Pabvon

Age: 41

Location/Region: NYC

Industry: Events (Management and Design)

Theme Song: Hmmm, there isn't one. It really depends on my mood. Music is everything to me though.

Favorite Place to Travel: Bali and Miami

Best Book You’ve Read in the Past Year: Children of Blood and Bone by Toni Adeyemi

If You Were A Color You Would Be: Today it's Yellow, but tomorrow it maybe turquoise. (Can you tell I don't like to be put in a box?)

Best Piece of Advice You’ve Ever Been Given: Get comfortable with change because it's the only guarantee (I was told this at 10-years-old and it always stuck with me).

Favorite Article of Clothing: I prefer to be nude or anything that will allow me to be free or nude under, so a sarong or a mumu! Since that's not socially acceptable. A great fitted pair of ripped jeans, comfy cute sneakers, sandals heels or boots (depending on the season) and a top with a pop of color. Bangles, dainty necklaces and earrings are my jam!

Biggest Fear: Not honoring my desires and living for others approval. Living a joyless life! How scary!

#1 on Your Bucket List: Live in a tiny home or Winnebago attached to a car and travel across the country. (I wanted to do that for my 40th bday.)

Fictional Character You Most Identify With: Ariel. Besides me being obsessed with Mermaids, I related to her being in one world but wanting to be in another. I didn't like that her story focused around only being able to be in another world because of a man. And she couldn't go back to her roots. She had to choose one life or the other. Not fair. Women can have it all and not depend on a man for it! OH can I have a second? Daisy Duck! Why? because Minnie had too much pressure having to be THEE Mickey mouse's wife, Daisy was her homegirl, she was able to just BE and enjoy life. She also didn't have to wear pants, and always had on cute shoes and jewelry! lol

Daily Affirmation: Find joy in all things!
