Have you ever met someone and you can instantly feel their light shining through? That's how I felt when I met Myra.  She was vending at an event I attended.  Her specialty? She makes jewelry from pieces of discarded pianos. I thought, how unique, how sustainable, how jealous am I that I didn't think of this first.

And then I found out that in addition to creating one of a kind jewelry pieces, she's also a musician and model.  Of course she is.  Because why wouldn't you live up to your fullest potential?

Since that meeting I've watched her from afar just continue to shine that light.  So I thought it necessary to share that light with you.  Meet jewelry maker, model, musician, wine maker, wife and soon-to-be mama, Myra Flynn.

I’ll start with a very LA-esque question.  What exactly is it that you do?

Someone once advised me to only do work that feels like it's an intrinsic part of my DNA. I've paid close attention to that and because of that advice, all of my sources of income naturally flow from one of my art forms to the next.

I am a singer/songwriter/ who naturally became a model born from basically just needing photos taken for band posters! From there photographers sought me out. I'm a piano player and once I started taking apart people's discarded pianos I saw that there were awesome and meaningful materials inside of it, things I would have been heartbroken to be discarded, things I wanted to wear as jewelry and from there I started Light of March 7th, my jewelry line. Lastly  I was playing concerts at multiple vineyards across the country but especially loved playing a special one in my home state of Vermont, called Shelburne Vineyard.  I noticed that folks who were wine appreciators, tended to also be music appreciators with the same sensitivity and vulnerability with which they sipped their wine. I asked if the Vineyard would start a wine with me and they agreed. From there, FLYNN was born and now you can find it in restaurants and vineyards across the country . So you see, everything came together organically. I've kept working hard at each new tendril of my small business and with consistency and the willingness to just try new and scary things, my brand has grown!

What inspires you?

It's tough to say what doesn't inspire me. In some ways, I could say I've spent my life making a music career out of heartbreak. But eventually had to be careful about reversing the rules of inspiration and creating heartbreak for the sake of the song. These days I pull from the goings on in the world. There's enough material there to last a lifetime.

Give me an abridged version of your journey.

I started piano lessons at age four. In high school, I paired my poetry with my piano and started writing songs. I even made a very basic little CD in my piano player's basement and then somehow handed it to the right people and was signed to a record label at age 16. Off I went into the industry, and three years later when I was no longer signed, I majored in journalism and classical piano.

For a while I was a features reporter covering arts and entertainment and I had a small band on the side, but eventually my music career overtook again and soon I found myself back at it again full time. I've been full-time at this art thing for a long time with many lessons in joy and pain collected along the way. It's a tough but awesome job and as a mentor once told me: "Its not for civilians."

What’s your biggest accomplishment thus far?

My current marriage and pregnancy. I've been on the road and belonging to an industry my whole adult life. I never thought I'd be able to have such beautiful and functional love.

What’s next for you?

Well, I have to make a human! But I'm already booked well into 2020. I'm recording my 5th album while pregnant which is pretty cool and something I'll never forget. I've been asked to do some pregnancy modeling which is wild and cool! Just learning more about self love, self-awareness and how to make the world better.

Name one major goal for the future so your sistren can manifest that with you.

I would love to begin some sort of songwriters retreat, deep in the woods somewhere. I love encouraging others to be their best artistic selves. Anything I can do to pay forward what I've learned in a peaceful and tranquil way would be life giving.
